Oscar The Golden Ghost Crab by Charlie Olsson came out in June 2017.
In Western Australia on a beach called Gnaraloo lived a colony of crabs, one of these crabs was Oscar and he was the leader. One day he heard some strange noise coming from above ground so Oscar goes to take a look and he was not happy with what he saw, people taking over the beach everywhere swimming, making noise and spreading rubbish. Oscar decides to take matters into his own hands, his starts to nip people, pops a beach ball and a nips a dogs tail while quickly hiding back into the sand so no one knew it was him. Over the megaphone comes an announcement "we suggest that you run like crazy and get off this beach as soon as you can". Oscar got his beach back, not many people go to that beach anymore which makes Oscar rather happy. This was a fun read, the illustrations are very cute. On the last page of the book it has some facts about these crabs. -They exist only between Broome and Perth in Western Australia and are one of five ghost crabs species in this area. So next time you head to a beach be careful of those little crabs. Click on images to purchase your copy. http://www.littlesteps.com.au Instagram: @littlestepspublishing #kidsbookswelove

What the Ladybird Heard on Holiday by the talented Julia Donaldson had just come out at the end of June 2017.
The Ladybird flew off for a holiday into town to see the sights then off to visit the zoo, while at the zoo she see the two men she has met once before Lanky Len and Hefty Hugh and she hears them say "We're going to kidnap Monkey Joe". So Ladybird tells the animals at the zoo what Lanky Len and Hefty Hugh plan is. Of course they were not happy about this but Ladybird has a plan to trick the thieves into thinking they were stealing the Queens Crown with Monkey Joe but it turns out it was a bag full of dog bones that Monkey Joe brings back. This is another great read of our little friend the Ladybird, we loved this one and the illustrations as always are gorgeous. This book also had little glitter parts on each page. Miss 4 thought it was rather funny when the thieves opened up the bag of dog bones and dogs started coming from everywhere to gave one. Bit about the author Paul is inspired by the fishing adventures he shares with his family in the creeks around Darwin. This story is a nice easy reading one about a tale of two kids that spend the day going crabbing with their Dad and how they do it, who they see and what they end up catching. "We love catching mud crabs, but most of all we love spending time with our Dad." This book would be a cute gift to give for Fathers day if your child loves going fishing/crabbing with their Dad. They dig holes, they sit by the holes hoping to catch a rabbit but still no rabbits. One day Erin came up with a plan to hide herself on the boat, as they were out in the ocean there was so much fog, next thing the boat had to make a sharp turn before hitting something Erin fell into the sea with no one not knowing she was there. Everything was so dark in the water she kept falling further down, next thing black rock woke up and pick Erin up out of the water. Erin was saved by the black rock. She needed to get back to land to let everyone know that black rock wasn't as bad as people thought it was. The illustrations in the book are amazing love them. Giraffe caught eye of something flying really fast towards them and stopping it just before it would of knocked Owl straight out of the tree. "Nice save! You should be a goalkeeper!' Giraffe was then asked to come play soccer with the rest of them team. Turns out Giraffe is the perfect goal keeper guess she found her hobby after all. Canary loved to sing but he only liked to sing when he was by himself as he was much to shy to sing in front of others. Canary had to gather a few more things to finish making his nest so he went on a search as he was out flying he watched others what they were up to and admired how good they were at doing what they were doing, and they all said back to him I am sure you are great at something too but canary didn't think so. Canary came upon a Lyrebird sounding so pretty and said "I've never heard anyone sing so proudly before!' Lyrebird convinces Canary to sing with him, Canary was unsure at first but if anything had taught him throughout his day that you shouldn't be shy about the things you are good at. Cute story Miss 4 enjoyed this one. Always be proud of things that you are good at, never hide your talents. Recommended age is 2-5 years. This was a fun book to read, image what life would be like if dinosaurs returned to this world. This book is based on dinosaurs returning to Broome in Western Australia. We enjoyed reading this one, got us thinking about how different life would be if we still had dinosaurs roaming around our country. From the book... "would they play and tumble with the humpback whale calves". " I wonder if they would be scared of the noisy planes flying into town?" What do you think it would be like if dinosaurs returned to land? During the night a storm roles in over the beach. The next morning the girls race down to the beach to check on the whale but they were delighted to find that the whale is no longer stranded on the beach as it was set free during the storm the previous night. Beautifully done illustrations in this book, Miss 4 didn't like that the whale was stuck on the beach as she wasn't sure how it would get back into the ocean, but then she was very happy when we got to the end of the story to see that the whale was back swimming in the ocean.
