Illustrator Meet Ingela What do you love most about kids books?
It is such a wonderful way to tell a story, to be able to mix images and text. I myself do many books without a classical story and it is so much fun to do illustrations that you know kids will look at and learn words from. And to see kids enjoy my books at for example Instagram makes my heart warm. Does it take long to complete a book? It all depends of the book of course. My books about cites take a long time of course because of the amount and complicity of the illustrations. A boardbook with five spreads goes faster. But they do take some times as well. Simplicity is harder than you think. So say it takes everything between two week to months. How many books have you done? Around 65! What inspires you to draw? I get inspired by beautiful things. I might see porcelain in a flea market, art at a museum, a piece in a bookstore - and that inspires me! Do you have a favourite thing to draw? I still like to draw animals and I also like do draw faces. If you could be anything what would it be? Might sound boring but I would be an illustrator. But maybe an illustrator with the skills to write too. What is something you have alway wanted to do but haven't done it? When it comes to my work: I would love to paint again, have an exhibition with big paintings. When it comes to my free time: I would have loved to do an Ironman to but that is to late..:) Where is your favourite place to visit? Nice, France. And Alsvik, Yxlan, Stockholm archipelago. Do you have a pet? No. Where are you from? I was born in The Hague, Netherlands but moved to Sweden when I was two. Any new up coming titles coming out soon, that we should be looking out for? My first book of New York. Walker Books Where´s Mr Astronaut? Nosy Crow Le grand nord. Marcel & Joachim Thanks for taking the time to answers our questions, we love your work its so fun.
