Free Diving by Lorrae Coffin and illustrated by Bronwyn Houston.
Free Diving is a poignant tribute the the Indigenous men and women who worked in Western Australia pearling industry as 'free divers' in the late nineteenth Century. I think this book would be better suited for children older than around 8, Miss 4 was a little to young for it but I enjoyed reading it and learning about free diving. Great little history story of things that went on in the nineteenth century. It is also written up as a song at the back of the book, but again Miss 4 thought I was silly when I tried to sing it.. So as Norman when inside he tried to cover his wings up with a big coat. And he continue to wear this coat everywhere he went. This is a great book, A big package arrives for a little boy saying "Congratulations on your new pet!" Which turns out to be a dinosaur. The story goes through all the things you need to do/know about how to care for him. Start with a healthy breakfast, don't be scared to get him to try new foods. After breakfast is a good time to take your dinosaur for a walk to the park, but don't forget to carry a bucket and spade in case he needs to poo. Make sure you get him home at a reasonable hour and start that bedtime routine. "And always remember, if you treat him well, your dinosaur can be ...... a friend for life." Such a fun book to read, super cute illustrations in this. Its just like how to look after your kids lol. Recommended age 3-6 years.
